Pitchcare For Cricket Grounds

Spring is on its way . As many of our professional readers will know, Spring is the most important season of the year when it comes to caring for your cricket pitch. After the long, bleak and (at times) very icy winter is over, your sports pitch will inevitably need some TLC and a little special attention - because giving your cricket grounds the care it needs in spring will help ensure supple and strong grounds for the remainder of the year, no matter the beating they take! To begin, it's always beneficial to clear any debris from the grounds that may cause havoc with your cricket mower. We'd always recommend giving your actual mower a good look over too, to make sure that everything is as it should be and will run smoothly after being out of action for the majority of the cold winter. You could do this yourself, or for a more thorough inspection, we'd recommend that you get in touch with your nearest Allett Dealer to give your machine a proper service to ensure that everything is in working order.

Not only does your cricket pitch require a consistent mowing schedule throughout the Cricket season, but it is essential that you feed your grounds during this time. At this time of the year, your grass wants nothing more than to grow at a rapid speed after a slow growth through the winter. To do this, your grounds require the correct nutrients at the correct quantity, and is the best way to avoid any build up of moss or dead grass matter and roots, in the future. If you've noticed a little more thatch than is ideal, scarifying is one of the most effective techniques used to help reduce this.

Recommended Allett Accessory - POWERED SCARIFIER (For Allett C Range machines)

Allett Scarifier cricket mower accessory This Allett designed scarifier uses steel blades to cut out any unwanted thatch and helps keep your sports surface healthy and disease free by allowing air and water to penetrate the soil surface. Our scarifiers also cut downwards rather than across, encouraging thickening of the tuft, meaning the grass is ”˜pruned', causing extra shoots to grow, producing a thicker and healthier turf for a more luxuriant playing surface. We also recommend the Allett Turf Rake cartridge which is ideal for removing moss. It is proving to be one of our most popular cartridges. Some cricket clubs have struggles with moss which effects the drainage- it is vital you remove the moss to allow nutrients and water to the grass roots.
